The Nelsonville Police Department is seeking information regarding an armed robbery that occurred on November 6th, 2007 at the Nelsonville Check Exchange on Chestnut St. A white male described as being in his early 20’s, approximately six feet tall, thin build and wearing a pair of white khaki cargo pants and a blue “hoodie” with a possible fox emblem on the front, entered the business on two occasions. While in the store on the second time, the suspect showed the employee a gun and demanded all the money. The employee complied and gave the suspect the money in the store at which time the suspect left the store. The suspect was seen prior to the robbery and after the robbery driving a black or dark blue Camero or Trans-Am, mid-80’s, and had a white female, described as having a small build and blonde hair as a passenger.

The Athens City Police are seeking your information regarding the breaking and entering of two local schools during the month of October. Unknown person or persons forcibly entered the Athens Middle School and West Elementary Schooland once inside, vandalized and entered vending machines. Money was removed from the vending machines and the machines received extensive damage. In the West Elementary break-in, computers were disassembled and several parts taken from the computers.

Information is needed regarding a robbery that occurred inside the Blue Gator during the early morning hours of Friday October 19th , 2007. The Athens City Police are needing information regarding a black male in his early twenties, 5’10” – 6’00”, 155 –175, who was dressed mostly in black and had a black, flat-billed ball cap on and who assaulted an intoxicated person. Upon striking the victim and knocking him unconscious, the unknown person then removed the victim’s wallet from his person and fled the business. The suspect was seen leaving with another black male who was dressed in a dark jacket with yellow across the front. Both subjects went south on N. Court St. and were last seen in front of The Junction Bar.

The Athens City Police, Athens County Sheriff’s Office and most other local law enforcement agencies are seeking information regarding the continuous theft of copper and catalytic converters inside the City of Athens and throughout AthensCounty. During the month of October, construction sites located at Krogers,Holzers’ Clinic and the new apartments at the old Landmark off of Palmer St. have been the victims of breaking and entering in which large amounts of copper wiring, on large spools, have been taken. Information is also wanted on businesses or persons responsible for buying large amounts of copper from individuals that is suspected of being stolen.

The Ohio University Police Department wants your information regarding the on-going theft of electronic equipment from different academic buildings on the Ohio University Campus. During the past months, laptop computers, ceiling mounted projectors and other electronic devices have been stolen from Alden Library, Bentley, Wilson and Brown Halls.

During the late evening hours of Tuesday August 14th, 2007and the early morning hours of Wednesday August 15th , 2007, unknown person or persons entered the music building and stole six trombones from a third floor hallway.

The Glouster, OH Police Department is seeking your information regarding two incidents in their city. On April 18th, 2007 at approximately 10:10 p.m., an employee of Jewell’s Drive-Thru was robbed as she was leaving the business after closing the drive-thru and getting into her vehicle. An unidentified male described as six (6) feet tall and dressed in all black grabbed the employee from behind and demanded that she give him the money from the night deposit bag. The female employee gave the unidentified male the money and he then struck her in the mouth before fleeing on foot across Cross St.

On April 17th, 2007, the Glouster Police Department was called to the Shingle Inn on High St. regarding the business being broken into. Forced entry was made into the business via a side door and once inside, unknown person or persons entered the safe and removed the money being kept in the safe. Alcoholic beverages were also taken from the business, including beer and several bottles of liquor.

During the early morning hours of Tuesday July 31st, 2007, the Ohio University Police Department was made aware of a dumpster fire on the south side ofGrosvenor Hall. This dumpster had been moved from Grosvenor Hall and placed on West Green Drive. The trash dumpster contained messages or graffiti that had been written in yellow spray paint by an unknown person or persons.

On Saturday June 2, 2007, shortly after 10:15 p.m., an eighty-five year woman had her purse stolen from her while walking on Sunnyside, just off of E. State St . The victim stated that the suspect was a white male, approximately 5”05” tall with dark hair and who was wearing a white t-shirt. The victim states that the suspect ripped the purse from her hands and then fled on foot, east on Sunnyside and then south towards Maplewood . A small, darker colored vehicle being driven by a female was seen in the immediate area just seconds before the robbery and is believed to have involvement in the incident.

Nelsonville Police Department is requesting information regarding an arson that took place on May 29th, 2007 during the early morning hours. At 210 hrs.,Nelsonville officers discovered where a porta-john had been set on fire resulting in the concession stand at the Nelsonville City Park to catch fire. The porta-john was destroyed while the concession stand received moderate damage. This is the second incident of someone setting a porta-john afire at the Nelsonville City Park this year.

Pump 1, located at 544 Richland Ave. was broken into during the early morning hours of Monday June 18th , 2007. Entry was gained into the business and a small safe containing an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the store. The Athens City Police are asking for your information on this breaking and entering.

A $500.00 reward is being offered for information regarding the theft of flowers, plants and yard ornaments from the yards of Athens residents on the east end of town. During the week preceding Memorial Day of this year, numerous residents in the east end of town reported the theft of flowers, plants and yard ornaments from their yards. Local law enforcement believes that these thefts may have occurred early of a morning, 8:00 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. If you have information on these thefts, please call Crime Solvers Anonymous at (740) 594-3331.

The Ohio University Police Department is seeking your information regarding the thefts of copper wire and tubing and hand tools from the construction site of a new residence hall on the south green of Ohio University. These thefts have been occurring since February of this year and continue to occur as of this date. The latest of these thefts occurred between Saturday May 19th and Monday May 21st , 2007 when someone entered the construction site and ten (10), one thousand (1,000) ft. rolls of copper wiring. In addition to the wiring, several tool storage areas were broken into and tools stolen.

The Athens Police Department is still seeking information regarding the solicitation of minors that occurred on Sunday April 29th, 2007 on Morris Ave. near Cornwell. Two children, ages six and seven, were approached by an older model brown or gold colored car which had some sort of screen located between the front and rear seats. An older female, described as having orange “poofie” hair, dark skin tone with a wrinkle as if she had spent a lot of time in the sun and described as being in her late 40’s to mid sixties.
In cases #20 and #21, a $1,000.00 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible.

Most of the cars have had forced entry into them resulting in damage to the vehicles also and people’s personal belongings left in the car are being taken.

Forced entry into the business was made all six times and items were removed from the store each time. These items consisted of cigarettes, beer, lighters, candy and other perishable merchandise. The person responsible for the unlawful entry of the business is described as a white male, in his early to mid twenties with dark hair and some facial hair. He appeared to be wearing a Carhart jacket with a hooded sweatshirt underneath each time that he entered the store and entry into the business was usually during the early morning hours.

The Athens City Police are also seeking information regarding the theft of catalytic converters from several car dealerships within the City of Athens . Catalytic converters were removed from cars on the lots of Don Woods, Taylor Motors and Russell Riverside during the past month. The catalytic converters appeared to have been cut off of the vehicles with some type of power tool.

Ohio University Police are seeking information on several crimes that have occurred on the campus of Ohio University. The Ohio University Police are receiving continuous complaints of the theft of tools from various construction sites on University Property. These thefts are believed to have occurred during the late evening hours or the early morning hours of the day.

The Ohio University Police are also investigating several suspicious fires that have occurred in a residential hall on the campus of Ohio University. On three separate occasions, February 20th, 21st, and 24th of this year, unknown person or persons intentionally set fires in Martzolf House located on the South Green. Two of the fires were set in the elevator of Martzolf while the third fire was set in a trashcan on the ground floor of the residence hall.

CASE #8 ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION
The Athens Police Department is investigating an attempted abduction that took place on Monday afternoon,February 12th, 2007 at approximately 3:11pm on the bike path off East State in the area of the Athens Recreation Center and the Athens Mall. According to the 25-year-old female victim, she was running along the bike path when a male approached her from behind and threw a jacket over her head, grabbing her around the neck. The victim began to scream and was eventually able to flee after a brief struggle. The victim then ran to the Social Security office and called for help. He was wearing an orange jacket, orange t-shirt, jeans and a gray toboggan hat. Officers tracked the suspect’s shoe-prints in the snow to the area of the Athens Library where he may have made a call for a ride. Officers also located an orange jacket with “Vols” on the back (a University of Tennessee Volunteers sports jacket, and an orange t-shirt lying in the snow between the library and US RT. 33.

The counterfeit bills ranged from five-dollar bills up one hundred bills and were passed at businesses in the uptown area, Richland Avenue and East State St . These incidents were random incidents.

The majority of the vehicles were taken from the east end of town and fortunately most were located abandoned and/or wrecked at locations within Athens County. A white SUV was found wrecked on Armitage Rd. early this summer with indications that the persons responsible for the theft of the SUV suffered injuries as a result of the accident. Another vehicle, a smaller, green SUV was found in an isolated slag pit nearDoanville, between the old railroad bed and Happy Hollow Rd. This vehicle is believed to have been driven around the Doanville area and Nelsonville for several days prior to being abandoned.

Wal-Mart in Athens is experiencing a rash of felony thefts in which electronic equipment is being taken from their business. Just recently, several X-Boxes, X-Box controllers, Paintball guns, Polaroid DVD 2 screen, an amplifier and a 19-inch LCD were removed from the business during the early morning hours.
The Athens Police Department is investigating an attempted abduction that took place on Monday afternoon,February 12th, 2007 at approximately 3:11pm on the bike path off East State in the area of the Athens Recreation Center and the Athens Mall. According to the 25-year-old female victim, she was running along the bike path when a male approached her from behind and threw a jacket over her head, grabbing her around the neck. The victim began to scream and was eventually able to flee after a brief struggle. The victim then ran to the Social Security office and called for help. On Saturday morning, December 2nd, 2006, at approximately 10:30 a.m., an unknown white male entered the bank lobby of People’s Bank on W. Union St. that is located in the HDL Center. The suspect was described as being 5”07”, 26 to 30 years old and weighing 160 to 200 pounds. The suspect was wearing a zipped fleece jacket with large, square plaid design. He had on a light colored, crocheted style toboggan and was wearing dark, frameless ski sunglasses. He was last seen leaving People’s Bank and was in the vicinity of the drive-through window. Other businesses in the HDL Center such as the Title Office and the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles were open for business.
