December 2025

Crimes of the Month


The following incidents have been listed by Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous as the July 2025 Crimes of the Month.

1.  The City of Athens and The Ohio University Police Departments have received several reports through the months of October and November of vehicles being broken into. The Board has approved a cash reward of between $500.00 and $1000.00 for any information that leads to the arrest or indictment of the suspect(s). 

September 2025

Crimes of the Month

1. On the morning of July 20, 2025, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a breaking and entering at the Cee-Dee Handy Mart, located at 32 Converse Street in Chauncey. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with two employees who had discovered the front door open with visible damage near the lock, indicating forced entry. The employees also reported several stolen items, including multiple packs of cigarettes, a lockbox containing cash, and a checkbook. The Board has approved a cash reward of up to $1000.00 for any information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspect(s).


July 2025

Crimes of the Month


The following incidents have been listed by Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous as the July 2025 Crimes of the Month.

1.  On May 26, 2025, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of vandalism at Millfield Park on Willis Drive in Millfield.Upon arrival, deputies discovered a local school bus had been vandalized. Obscenities had been written in spray paint across several exterior areas, including windows, doors, headlight, and passenger side. A fire extinguisher had been discharged inside the bus, causing extensive damage to the interior.

Deputies also discovered damage to township property, including white spray paint on the restroom building, the park’s main sign, and a section of the sidewalk. The markings included vulgar language and graffiti.

The Board has approved a cash reward of up to $2000.00 for any information that leads to the arrest or indictment of the suspect(s).


2.  On June 12, 2025, Athens Police received a report of two subjects who stole several cartons of cigarettes from Speedway on E. State St. The total theft was over $500.00. The Board has approved a cash reward of up to $1000.00 for any information that leads to the arrest or indictment of the suspect(s).

April 2025

Crimes of the Month


The following incidents have been listed by Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous as the April 2025 Crimes of the Month.

1. On March 19, 2025, Athens Police received a report of a Theft of a 2009 White Chevrolet Impala from 363 Richland Ave (Summit at Coates Run). In addition to the theft of the vehicle, it is believed the suspect(s) tried to enter another vehicle causing minor damage and they went through at least two other vehicles and took miscellaneous items from them. The Board has approved a cash reward of up to $2000.00 for any information that
leads to the arrest or indictment of the suspect(s).


February  2025

Crimes of the Month


The following incidents have been listed by Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous as the February 2025 Crimes of the Month.

1. Athens Police are investigating the Theft of a vehicle from Hugh White Honda on January 27, 2025. Stolen was a 2021 Green Dodge Challenger. The Board has approved a cash reward of up to $2000.00 for any information that leads to the arrest or indictment of the suspect(s).

2. The Athens Police are seeking information which leads to the arrest of Joseph Papineau. Papineau has several outstanding warrants for theft, receiving stolen property, and breaking and entering. The Board has approved a cash reward of up to $2000.00 for any information which leads to his location and arrest.
